Luxury

When someone passes, you may inevitably reach out to the closest memories, the ones that lie closest to the rim of your soul....ready to spill out and be looked at.

But time is a blessed soldier and allows you a perfect luxury....an option that only appears after certain expanses of time.

The simple luxury is this....due to the distance that time affords, one can choose which memories to visit and celebrate.

There is no more cup that is brimming over with urgent reminders of what has already passed.

It's like a an old Sears catalogue where you are picking out your favourite new drapes. Do I like this style? Does this fabric match the mode of my current life? Are they the right length and catch the evening light of pink sunsets or block the morning sun?

And so it goes. This ripe development has give me much courage. Perhaps courage is not the right word. Joy may be a better choice.

I am enjoying this new freedom. With freedom comes liberty and a myriad of choices.  I can choose what to remember more and what to allow to recede into the greys of forgetfullness. No more urgency to recall it all verbatim.

Thanks God. I did not know this time would come...more than a decade later.

For all my readers who have a lost close one.

Peace,
Carla
